Essay, Article, Speech for Junior and Senior Prom Night. Turnover of Mantle and Key of Responsibility

TURNOVER OF MANTLE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Guest of Honor and speaker, Principal, Faculty Staff, PTA President and Officers, Alumni, Parents, Juniors, and fellow Seniors, a pleasant good evening.

This lovely evening of, 8th of February in the year 2014 will be one of the most memorable events of our life, the integral part of our high school experiences – the Junior-Senior Prom.

In four years of stay in our beloved Alma Mater, the Sta. Catalina Academy, our student life here will soon come to an end. This is the realization that we are leaving high school in the days to come. We, Seniors, will take an important step into a new stage of our life where greater challenge lies ahead.

Juniors, you are the inheritors of the strong and proud legacy of our school. Being the next batch of Seniors, you will continue the cycle of high school life. On your shoulders lies the responsibility of being the role model where underclassmen will look upon to you as their big brothers and sisters. You will continue our unfinished tasks as we sail to discover new world. Juniors, strive to hone your skills and traits of being the leader and role model of the younger students of our school.
Respect and utilized also the wisdom that you have learned from us, from our experiences and successes because we have come before you and had crossed this difficult stage of being the Seniors.

Fellow Seniors, invested me with responsibilities as being the class leader. At this juncture, it is my honor and privilege to pass on to you, Juniors, the mantle of responsibilities. We have done our part and it is now the time to relinquished it on to you.

Each mantle bears the weight of task. Put it on, and carry its weight, and go on with the journey. We knew that you are willing and able to continue the cycle of work that we are going to left behind.

This turning over of mantle does not mean that we turned our back toward the school. It only marks the beginning of our greater responsibility toward our Alma Mater as well as the community.
We have a vision for our school -- a vision of greatness. I exhort you, all of you, Juniors to nurture this vision as I passed this mantle of responsibilities on to you. May each and every one of you will fulfill your roles and commitments with honor, passion and pride.

Thank You.

How a friendly Mantiw giant stole cooked foods and how he make fun of a sleeping man by putting him on a tall tre.

From the oral account of Rodel Andrada of Asan Poblacion, Sison Pangasinan.

My village is a hilly place where tall and big trees abound. Our house, a small hut was at the foot of the hill where tall tress surrounds it.

There was no electricity in our village and it was dark at night. One bright night with clear moonlight, my father pointed to me a tall shadow of a man standing by the tree. The mahogany tree was alone and the moon cast its light on it and its shadow can be seen on the ground.

There was a shadow of a man as tall as the tree but when I looked at the tree, nobody was there standing.

Father said it was  the mythical mantiw giant that can't be seen by our naked eyes. He said he lived on it. Father said he was friendly but mischievous.

One morning my father was looking for the iron pot kaldero, where he cooked paksiw na bangus  fish that night. He left the pot on the stove. He was crazy looking for it. Later we found out that it was hanging atop the tree where the mantiw lived.

Father silently cursed the tree as he climbed to get the pot. He knew that shouting at the tree will anger the mantiw.

But the most unforgettable incident that we can't forget is this one:

One night, a drunken man passed by and  shouted curse at  the unseen mantiw on the tree. All of a sudden the man  shivered, passed out and  fell asleep at the tree. The next morning the man woke up atop the tallest tree. He shouted for help and he was tied down by the villagers with ropes before he was brought down.

From then on, nobody cursed the tree nor cut it out of fear of the invisible mantiw giant.

How the shaman hilot or mananod latin prayers oracion became effective in assisting pregnant women delivering a no-pain childbirths.

From the oral account of Andrew Abracia of Luna E., Umingan, Pangasinan as told by his grandfather.

My grandfather is a local shaman who specialize in the childbirth. Most of the women in our village as well as the nearby  towns that surrounds our place were seeking the help of my grandfather.

In his time, the hospitals were few and are far away in the city or big town only. So, they fetched my grandfather by horse, carabao or by cart to administer the childbirth. He was famous because of the no-pain birth he gave.

I asked him how he did it.

He said it was simple because he inherited the latin prayers and oraciones to make it effective.
He said he memorized the  texts or verbos so that when the libreta, micro book was lost, he still knew the words.

He said once he reached the doorstep he will recite in murmur the prayers.

Then he will asked for 7 pieces of  fresh and fertile eggs of chicken. He will picked one of it and murmur his prayers and after he was done he will blow the egg with his warm breathe for 7 times. Then he will cracked open the egg at the pointed top and make a hole. Then, he will offer the egg to the pregnant woman and told her to drink it in sucking whole the content.

Minutes later, the woman will give birth as if she was just like defecating.
If the woman will not deliver, another egg will be taken and follow the same procedure.

It was effective because he can't use the 7th egg before a woman will give birth.

Sadly, he was killed by a sorcerer friend who envied him. His sorcerer friend gave him a delicious food that he could not declined. Deep inside the food is a powerful kilkeg that he did not detect. After eating, his body reacted but could not removed it.

Slowly he became weak and thin. He could eat but he vomited  all the food that enters. So, he died slowly of hunger.

As for us, nobody inherited his shamanism prayers for we feared that somebody might envy us and suffer the same fate.
